May 18: We’re ready to leave Monterey Bay and head to Hawaii, our 4500 km / 2800 miles unsupported rowing expedition to raise awareness for drinkwater scarcity and the necessity to be more aware of our familiarity towards this most valuable element for our lives and existence.
Yet, we’re holding due to weather conditions that will not allow for a safe departure. A strong wind up to 30 kts from the North accompanied with equally strong waves (+3 meters) blocks our exit from the Bay heading West to Hawaii.
Meanwhile we’ll stay in the Bay to perform more sea-trials, make new friends like the crew of our big neighbour who’s holding for the same reasons before sailing to the North. It’s good to share experiences, getting valuable advice about our electronic equipment and learn a bit more about the Pacific.
Spirits are high, though waiting is not one of our better personality features, but the ocean has it’s own schedule, and we have to adjust.
